Candle Care

Candle Care
The First Burn is Very Important!
Make sure that the first time you light your new candle you allow the wax to melt on the entire surface of the candle (from the middle to edges of the container), you want to create a pool of wax at the top of the candle. This prevents tunnelling and helps to promote an even burn throughout the candle’s life. The time this will take varies on the candle size.

Keep your wick trimmed!
You need to trim your wick to ¼ inch before lighting your candle every time. This helps to prevent black smoke, prevent overheating of the candle jar and prevent parts of the burnt wick falling into your wax. Remove the wick trimming or any other debris before relighting the candle.

Avoid burning your candle for more than four hours in one sitting!
If you burn your candle for too long it increases the risk of your candle jar overheating and breaking, we suggest after burning your candle for three hours you give it at a break of at least two hours to let it cool.

Once the wax in the jar falls below half an inch, discontinue use!
If you do not do this the container can overheat as the flame is too close to the base of the jar, by following this rule you are preventing heat damage to the container and the surface around the candle.

When a soy wax candle is placed in the sun or in a very warm place they can sometimes sweat due to being too hot. This doesn’t affect the candle at all, this is easily fixed by not placing your candle in the sun. If your candle is not lit and is in the sun and has developed some sweat just use a tissue to wipe it off. Do not use a tissue if the candle is lit, make sure to removed any tissue debris before lighting the candle.

You may notice when you receive your candle that there may be some air bubbles on the top of your candle, this can occur sometimes when soy wax is hand poured. This doesn’t affect the candle at all.

Safety Precautions
Candles are meant to be enjoyed, but it is important that you follow some commonsense safety rules when burning them.
• Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish all candles when you leave a room or before going to sleep.
• Don't place a burning candle within two feet of clothing, books, curtains or anything flammable.
• Keep lit candles away from draughts, ceiling fans and any air currents. Any form of air current can cause uneven burning, smoking, diminish the scent throw and even decrease the burn time.
• Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
• Place candle holders on a stable, heat-resistant surface that is sturdy and large enough to catch any melted wax.
• Always read and follow manufacturers' directions for use and safety and extinguish a candle if the flame gets too close to the candle holder or container.
• Place burning candles at least 10cm apart from one another.
• A burning candle should not be used as a nightlight.
• A candle should not be burned for more than four hours at a time.
• Do not burn the candle if the container is cracked, chipped, scratched or damaged in any way.
• If the candle is burning correctly, it should be constant (not flickering), teardrop shaped and upright.
